Discipline Equals Freedom: A Navy SEALs Outlook on Discipline...
Duke from Tidbits
Happy Saturday! Duke from Tidbits here to give you the weekly round-up.
Discipline Equals Freedom by Jocko Willink
Former Navy SEAL turned jiu-jitsu enthusiast, author, father, husband, athlete, businessman and holder of many other titles, Jocko Willink.
Most of his books follow a simple theme, getting better. This book was no exception.
His argument is simple: "We all want freedom, but freedom requires discipline. If you want financial freedom, you have to save money." If you want inner freedom, you have to not think stupid thoughts. And if you want freedom at work, you have to do a good job so others will give you responsibility and breathing room.
"All that takes discipline," Jocko says.
This whole book seeks to demystify the discipline that can be used to forge a Navy SEAL. The advice given can be applied to anyone who wants to be a high-achieving person of any kind. Whether that is in business, sport, family, spirituality, etc.
I also have to give extra kudos for the book design, it’s unique, filled with pictures, easy to read, and nice to hold
Here’s my 3 key takeaways:
The only shortcut in life is realizing there are no shortcuts.
To succeed in waking up early, set a fixed get-up time, then let sleep debt help you settle into the rhythm.
The only person worth competing against is yourself.
If you’re looking to achieve more than you have been, this is a great book to start with!
